Maine College and Career Access College Success

This course focuses on the essential skills of a successful college student which will include study skills, time management, decision making strategies, financial literacy, career pathways exploration and building the writing skills necessary for academic readiness. This class fulfills the FIGS requirement and is worth one college credit at SMCC. This class will have live Zoom classes for the first and last class.

Maine College and Career Access Pre-College Reading and Writing
with Kristen Stevens

This online course will focus on getting students reading and writing abilities to the collegiate level as measured by the Accuplacer post-secondary placement exam. Live classes will be held virtually via Zoom. Students will also complete assignments out of Zoom such as watching supplemental video, reading texts, completing written assignments and taking practice tests.
This class will meet via Zoom.

Maine College and Career Access Pre-College Math
with Kristen Stevens

This online course will review mathematical concepts and skills essential for college readiness as measured by the Accuplacer post-secondary placement exam. Learning opportunities will take place through “live” virtual instruction, video supplements and individual practice. Topics include computing with rational numbers, applying ratios and proportional reasoning, creating linear expressions and equations, graphing and applying linear equations, understanding probability and sets, and interpreting graphical data. At the end of the course students will take the Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra and Statistics Accuplacer Exam.
Class will meet via Zoom and Brightspace.

fulfills a 1 credit graduation requirement for both Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) and Central Maine Community College (CMCC). Students who successfully complete class will meet the graduation requirements for the Freshman Interest Group (SMCC) or the First Year Seminar (CMCC) and will earn a credit towards degree completion.
